FOXTON’S PROGRESS.
SOME INTERESTING FIGURES.
That Foxton has progressed during the past five years was proved by some figures placed before the Borough Council last night by His Worship the Mayor. Mr Gibbs referred to the returns for the borough, as supplied to the Government Statistician, for the year ended March 31st, 1912, and that ended March 31st, 1907. During the five years the population of the borough had increased by 200, the dwellings by 73, ratepayers by 63, rateable properties by 355, the annual values of rateable properties by ,£4,740, and the capital value of rateable properties by 817. Thesubsidy on rates had only increased by £1 43, whilst the total revenue from rates showed an increase of ,£1502, and revenue from other sources increased by ,£2,275, a ’* n ‘ crease of ,£4507. The total amount received and accounted for by the Town Clerk for the past year was ,£10,914, as against March 31st, 1907. The cost of maintenance of roads, streets and bridges was ,£IOO less than 1907. The street lighting was now costing ,£137 more per year, and the Hospital and Charitable Aid rate showed an increase of £5.
