CRICKET.
At a meeting of cricketers held on Thursday evening in the Manawatu Hotel, over which Mr W. S. Stewart presided, it was decided that a new club be formed, to be called the Foxton Cricket Club. In past years there have been two local clubs, and competitions have been arranged between these, but towards the end of last season an invitation was received from the Horowhenua Association asking Foxton to take part in their shield competition. The two local clubs amalgamated for this purpose, and the Foxton team was successful in winning the competition. The majority of the local cricket enthusiasts were of opinion that it would be in the best interests of the game to in future have one club only, and to join the Horowhenua Association, and at Thursday night’s meeting this course was decided upon. Both of last year’s clubs are free of debt, and have a fair amount of material, so that the new club will commence with a “clean sheet.’’ The following officers were elected for the ensuing year ; Patron, Mr George Coley ; president, Mr H. Coley ; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. A. W. Hunt; captain, Mr W. Redgrave. The secretary was instructed to write to a number of gentlemen asking them to accept the positions oi vice-presidents. A piuvisiouai committee was set up, and the permanent committee o f management will be elected, at a later meeting.
