BRIDE OF A DAY ELOPES.

WITH HER HUSBAND’S VALUABLES.

Mrs Ida Stein Schudel, the wife of Max Schudel, a cabinetmaker ot 1368 North Washington Street, Baltimore, and Frank Jahn, of 556 North Fairmouth street, of that city, were arrested in Hoboken the other day ,as they were going aboard the Noordham, of the Holland-American Line. They are being held to await extradition.

The pair disappeared from Baltimore, where Mrs Schudel, who is 28, was married to Max Schudel, 48 years old, on July 12th. She told the Hoboken police that her affections quickly waned, and when she realised this she sent for Jahn and they decided to elope to Germany. In their haste to get away, it is alleged, Mrs Schudel took 1722 dollars in cash, and a quantity of valuable jewellery belonging to her husband. The pair had 1450 dollars when they were arrested. It was learned in Baltimore that Schudel on July nth advertised for a housekeeper to take care of his home and four young children. The advertisement was answered by Ida Stein. Schudel accepted her services as housekeeper, and the next day he popped the question, and they were married. On July 13th Schudel took his wife to the Savings Bank of Baltimore, where he placed his savings account of 1722 dollars in her name. The next day Mrs Schudel vanished with the money. Schudel has his cabinetmaker’s shop in the rear of Old St. Paul’s Church. He said he does not want his wife back, but is anxious to get his money.
