METHODIST CHURCH.

The quarterly meeting in connection with the Foxton Methodist circuit was held on Wednesday evening last, at the manse, there being a fair attendance of officials present representing Foxton and Shannon. The Rev. T. Coatsworth presided and Mr G. H. Stiles acted as secretary. The church trustees reported having sold the site in Main Street, and having purchased a suitable site on the Avenue Road, on which to erect the new church. The action ot the trustees was confirmed. It was also reported that plans were being prepared for the new building, and that it was hoped to be able to call for tenders at an early date. Owing to special expenditure during the quarter the finances showed a small deficiency. Two names were removed from the church roll and seven were added. It was decided to report to the Synod an increase of twelve members. At all the preaching places a number of people had made a profession ot faith, for which gratitude to God was expressed. A letter was received from the Central Committee ot the Methodist Church, Christchurch, re the formation of a “ League of Prayer” which it is proposed to form in every circuit throughout the Dominion. It was unanimously resolved to join the ” Prayer League,” and to enrol members throughout the circuit. In view of the union ot the two Methodist Churches, the meeting discussed the alteration of the boundaries of the circuit. Nothing definite was decided, and the matter was referred to a later meeting. The Rev. T. Coatsworth and the Rev. N. Hyde were heartily and unanimously invited to remain on the circuit tor a further term, members of the meeting speaking in appreciative terms of the work of both ministers. These invitations were heartily accepted. Permission was given to the Foxton Sunday School to hold its anniversary in November, and also to the trustees of the church to arrange lor the stone-laying ceremony in connection with the new building- The application ol the Shannon friends to hold a small sale ol work was granted. The station was reported to the Synod, which meets next month, to be prosperous in every way. It was decided to invite the Wellington Synod of United Methodism to meet next year in Foxton. All officials were re-elected and the next quarterly meeting was arranged to be held at Shannon on the first Wednesday in December. The meeting was closed with prayer, alter which refreshments were handed round and the meeting dispersed.
