BULB SHOW.
The local Horticultural Society’s second annual Bulb Show was held in the Masonic Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. The committee, headed by the President (Mr Alex. Speirs), and secretary (Mr H. C. Patterson) had left no stone unturned to have all arrangements thoroughly complete, and are to be complimented upon the thoroughness of their work. The exhibits, both from a numerical and quality point of view were excellent, and the exhibition all through was very creditable to the committee and the exhibitors.
The show was formally opened by Mr Alex. Speirs, who also called upon Mr H. Rockell, an old member, and a resident of Carnarvon, to say a few words.
Mr Rockell complimented those responsible for the exhibition on the quality and number o( exhibits, which he said was very creditable. He touched upon the importance of encouraging horticulture and gave a few points, gained by experience, in connection with the cultivation of bulbs ; and also suggested that the committees and exhibitors of shows within a reasonable radius should, wherever possible, assist each other by exhibiting their blooms at the neighbouring shows. Friendly rivalry in this manner would go a long way to lurther popularise horticulture. PRIZE LIST.
