TOWN CLERK’S REPORT

At Monday night’s Council meeting the Town Clerk’s report was read as follows :

“The gravel from Palmerston is coming forward very slowly and that trom Jackeytown not at all, the men are spreading and breaking metal at south end of Main Street, as fast as it comes forward; in the intervals they have been employed tree planting, mending holes in roads and cleaning out water tables. They also have started on the cuttings in Johnston St. The gas main in the Lady’s Mile and services to consumers have now been completed, and the lamp at the railway crossing is greatly appreciated. During the last fire, owing to the exertions of the gas manager and his men, gas meters to a considerable value were saved and while the men got paid overtime at double rates the gas manager got no recompense, and I would recommend that the Council vote a sum to Mr Stunell. i'he picture show continues to be well patronised and I would suggest than an electric wire be run from the operator’s cabinet to a small arc lamp in centre of hall, the expense would not be very great and it would be a great improvement for picture shows.”
