TEMPORARY BUILDINGS
THjj, jju'ESiTON OF
PERMITS
Cr Richmond moved at last night’s Council meeting that no more permits be granted for temporary buildings in the Main Street without a guarantee of their removal within nine months. This was seconded by Cr Whibley. The mover said that in giving permits for temporary buildings he understood there was no safeguard for the Council, and that the owners could uot be compelled to pull them down later ou. He asked if there was any guarantee given in connection with the permits already granted.
The Town Clerk said that the permits given were for temporary buildings, and provided that such buildings should be removed within nine mouths.
Cr Richmond said the provision was not worth the paper it was written on. The Council could not force the owners to remove the buildings, and he knew of one man that had no intention of removing the one he had erected. The Council should get an agreement signed in connection with same.
The Mayor said that the bylaws imposed certain conditions in connection with the erection ol buildings in Main street, and the Council could not alter these conditions by resolutiou only. 11 any ratepayer objected to the class of building that was being erected, the owner would have to remove it.
The motion was lost on the casting vote of tire Mayor, Crs Adams, Chrystall, Richmond and VVhibley supporting it, and the Mayor and Crs Coley. Stewart and Speirs opposing it,
