THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday as follows: The market is firm at advance and there is better demand. Spot good fair, ; fair, ; Manila, ss. Forward : August-October, good fair £ 26, fair 10s, Manila ,£26 10s. The output of Manila tor the week was 25,000 bales.
The prices quoted for spot are the same as those cabled two weeks ago, but are an advance on last week’s of two shillings in the case of good fair and five shillings for fair. For forward delivery there is a further advance of two shillings per ton, bringing the price of that grade to within 30s ot the better quality hemp. The increase in the price ot both New Zealand and Manila hemp during the past six weeks is about per ton. Two weeks ago Manila was quoted at £2 under the price of good fair, but this week the quotation for New Zealand is five hillings per ton below the Philippine hemp.
