LORD ISLINGTON.
TO RESIGN THE GOVERNORSHIP.
London, July 25
It is understood that the Hon. Mr Montague, when making the Indian Budget statement in the House of Commons, will announce a Royal Commission to enquire into the Indian Civil Service. The Commission will be under the presidency of Lord Islington, who is to resign the Governorship of New Zealand to take up the work. (His Excellency was appointed in 19x0. He sat in the House of Commons as Conservative member for Chipenham 18921910, and was a member of the London County Council 18981904. In these positions he was highly thought of by his colleagues and took a keen interest in public questions of the type he is to enquire into. His departure will be much regretted in New Zealand.
