RACING PERMITS.

The Marton Jockey Club, which prior to the Raciug Commission’s report had two days’ racing, was afterwards given an extra two days, and the Raugitikei Club, which had lour days’ racing, was wiped out altogether in regard to racing permits, the Commission thinking that the Marton Club would serve all purposes, io-day a deputation, introduced by Mr E. Newman, M.P., representing the Marton Raciug Club, wailed on the Prime Minister and asked that the iour days given to Marton should uot be interfered with. The Prime Minister said that the Minister for internal Affairs, Hon- ii. D. Bell, had carefully cousideied both the Raugitikei aud Martou Clubs positions aud it had been decided that Marton should be reduced to Uiree days and two days - should be given to Raugitikei, one ot the Metropolitan Clubs to be reduced by one day to equalise matters. Although no legislation would be introduced during the present session, later on legislation was in contemplation, making an exception in favour ot Hunt, Jlubs, which were suffering some hardships now, and they desired to give such clubs one day’s racing a year.
