TERRIBLE TRAIN SMASH.

New York, July 4

Thirty-four passengers were killed and fifty injured by an express colliding with the rear of the West-bound Eackwanua passenger train near Corning. All the rear cars were telescoped and hurled over an embankment. Most of the dead passengers were going home to spend the 4th of July holiday.

The accident occurred on a straight stretch of track, and the cause is unknown. An enormous crowd of automobilists, drawn by curiosity, obstructed the rescue operations, and the police were obliged to drive them away.
