LABOUR UNREST.

Westport, June 30

The Buller Council of the Federation of Labour passed the following resolution at its quarterly meeting to-day : “That this Council, representing Unions affiliated with the Federation of Labour in the Buller district, heartily endorses the action of the Executive of the Federation relative to Waihi strike and Reefton lock-out, and hereby pledges its various organisations to support, morally and financially, any action that may be deemed necessary to ensure a working class victory. Further, we, on behalf of your organisations assure our comrades in the fight of our most sincere fellowship in their fight for humane conditions.” It is authoritatively stated that the feeling of the miners in ibis district is very favourable to a general strike in sympathy with Waihi and Reefton, and that the leaders are experiencing some difficulty in keeping the strike spirit in check. Reefton, June 29.

Further developments regarding the working of the Energetic mine have occurred. The shift bosses working in the Energetic were met this morning by the refusal of the euginedrivers to lower them. The shift bosses were working the Popper or Waugh drill singlehanded, and stormy scenes occurred at the mouth of the mine. The euginedrivers, however, were firm, and the shift bosses and others had to return without working.

There was a meeting of enginedrivers last night. Only the euginedrivers on the Energetic mine have struck. The engined rivers here are in a peculiar position. Some are members of the Engineers’ Association and the Miners’ Union, and others belong either to one or the other body. Rfffton, June 30.

A large mass meeting of miners was held to-day, but was not open to the press. It is understood the meeting appreciated the action ot the engine-drivers at the Energetic mine in coming out on strike, and discussed the financial position. A good number , f miners trom Blackwater were present.
