CATHOLIC CONCERT AND DANCE.
Notwithstanding the very inclement weather ot the past few days, there was very little prospect of it clearing yesterday morning, for the concert and dance that was to be held at night, but at noon the weather seemed to clear and by evening the prospects of a fine night was assured. The hall was well filled by eight o’clock and prior to the commencement of the concert the Borough Band, under the conductorship of Mr J. Goldcr, rendered selections outside the hall. The programme, which was given by the children ot St. Mary’s School, was a very good one and reflects great credit on the Sisters. The way the little ones performed was very clever, and the promoters must have spent considerable time in preparing them for their respective items. The staging of the various items was prompt aud there was no tiresome waits between whiles, as so often is the case at local concert. The programme submitted was as follows : Prologue, Master F. Desmond ; pianoforte duet, “ Capricauti,” Misses Walls and Pearson ; action song, “My Japloo Baby,” Junior Girls ; dialogue, “The Frenchman’s Studies,” Masters G. White and R. Hynes ; action song, “ Flowery Garlands,” School Girls; action song, “The Fine Old Drum,” School Boys, (encore) ; pianoforte duet “Maritana,” Misses White aud Conlan ; dance, “The Dancers,” Infant Boys and Girls ; recitation, “ The Sailor Boy’s Dream,” Master Tim Leuihan ; action song, “The Coach and Four,” School Children ; dialogue, “ The Coffee was not Strong,” Miss Kathleen aud Master C, White ; chorus, “Music on the Waves,” School Children ; recitation, "Li . Puff Stuff.” Master G. White; chorus, “The Kerry Dances,” School Children ; dance, “The Irish Jig,” Misses Conlan, Leniban, Desmond aud White ; action song, “Heads and Heels,” School Boys ; pianoforte solo, ‘‘lrish Diamonds,” Miss White ; farce, “Evils of Shortsightedness,” Dr. Cureu, Master G. White. Bobs, Master T. Leniban. Mobs, Master R. Hynes. Patients, Masters F. O’Rielly, F. Desmond, W. Collius and Miss K. White ; epilogue, Master C. White. The coucert, on the whole, was a very enjoyable one, the little ones throughout showiug no signs ot nervousnss. The accompaniments were played by Misses White and Leniban.
After the floor had been cleared dancing was indulged in, when about 50 couples tripped the light lautastic to excellent music supplied by Mr F. C. Berthold, assisted by Conlau’s Baud Irom Himatangi. Messrs M. Perreau and S. Hudson carried out the duties ot M’s.C. in their usual capable manner. The supper, which was supplied by the lady members of St. Mary’s Church, was all that could be desired and was done full justice to. The secretary, Mr P, Hennessy, left no stone unturned to ensure both functions a success, and his efforts were well rewarded. From a financial point of view the function was one of the best in the history ot these socials, and socially, one of the most pleasant ones yet held. The next social will probably take place in about four weeks time.
