“H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND” PRESENTATION FUND.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —In regard to the movement which has been set on foot by the ladies ot the Timarn branch ot the Navy League to present a silk ensign and Union Jack to H.M.S. New Zealand when she visits the Dominion in January next, may we ask the courtesy of your assistance in this endeavour. The idea of the promoters is to make the presentation widely representative of “the women ot New Zealand,’’ and in order to give everybody the opportunity of identifying themselves with the movement the general subscription is fixed at one shilling. Ladies preferring to give more money may, ot course, do so. Perhaps you would be good enough either to receive amounts subscribed in your district and that in which your paper circulates, or in making the announcement public request a volunteer committee of ladies in your neighbourhood to come forward as local collectors. It is hoped and confidently anticipated that an unanimous support will be given to this project from every portion of the Dominion, and that thereby an unmistakable indication may be given of the interest the women of our country take in the splendid vessel which they have assisted to contribute to the Royal Navy and the Empire. Subscriptions may be sent to the undersigned, addressed to P.O. Box 53, Timaru, and should be made ny cheque crossed [> '.uk of Australasia if your subcriptions could be sent weekly we would be able to know exactly how the movement is progressing, and be enabled to take the necessary steps to complete all details as soon as possible. We are especially anxious that all girls’ schools should be given the opportunity of joining in this project, penny or threepenny subscriptions Horn these being lumped together to form the total contributions from each school. Thanking you in anticipation for your good offices, —Yours, etc., Florence; Jones, Acting President Ladies’ Committee. Geo. N. G. Arber, Hon Secretary, Timaru Centre of the Navy League.
