AFTER THE BEER.

Dunedin, June 21

At the police court this morning two railway shunters named David Hauuibel Waldie and John Little, were charged separately with having stolen beer from casks in transit Irom Lawrence to Dunedin. it was shown that while the train stopped at Mosgiel tot some time, accused, by means of a hose pipe and steam guage tubes, extricated from hogsheads a considerable quantity of beer. It was mentioned that the shortage in one cask delivered to an hotel at Dunedin was twenty gallons.

Chief-Detective Herbert staled that Mosgiel had given the police much trouble for a long time owing to the thett of beer and butler and other produce in season.

Both the accused were convicted. but in view of their previous excellent character, sentences were deterred.
