THE OTAKI SEAT.
FLAXMILL EMPLOYEES
WILL NOMINATE THEIR OWN REPRESENTATIVE.
In conversation with a representative of the Standard, several members of the Flaxmill Employees’ Union staled that it was almost a certainty that at the next general election one of the aspirants for Parliamentary honours would be a flaxmill employee. There was a feeling existing at present, it was stated, among those engaged in the liaxmiU industry, that they ought to have a representative irom their own ranks in Parliament. They recognised that it was largely by their collective vote at the last election that their present member was returned, but they prefened one who was a worker iu their midst, as he would have a greater knowledge ot their requirements. There was little doubt that it an election did not occur before three years, one of the candidates lorlhe Otaki seal would be nominated by the Flaxmill Employees’ Union. Of course, there was a possibility ot a dissolution being forced on Parliament within the next six months, 111 which case the mill employees might not be sufficiently organised to run their own candidate.
