AIL SAINTS’ VESTRY.
The vestry of All Saints’ Church met last night, the vicar being in the chair. A letter was received from the secretary of the Methodist Church, asking lor a price for the halt-acre of ground in the Avenue, now rented by Dr Adams, for a proposed site for building their church. The vicar explained that the vestry had no power to sell, as the land was held by the Diocesan Synod in trust for the General Synod. The secretary was asked to write to Mr Stiles and explain that they had no power to sell. The must important matter that was discussed was the mass meeting to be held ou July 17th, in connection with the Church of England Men’s Society. It was decided that each vestryman call on a number of men in the parish and ask them to come to the meeting in July. The meeting was a public one, open to all men, aud will be held in All Saints’ Sunda} school. The vicar was asked to write to the Rev H. G. Rosher, vicar of Palmerston N., and ask him to make arrangements for the different speakers. It was explained that the meeting was simply to hear all about the C.E.M.S. and its working, aud its power with men, and il did not tie anyone down to become a member. The matter of membership would come alter this meeting, and only to those who felt drawn by it. The vicar explained that by the rules a member must be a communicant, and au associate aud a professing churchman. The first meeting was to learn all about it. The C.E.M.S. is au appeal from men to men —it is a " body ot men who, recognising that 1 heir Baptismal promise means work, are banded together in order to pray and do .something to help to lorward the work of the church in their own parishes, and also to remind others that religion must be worked at. It is talk that divides ; it is work that unites." It also takes up the social ' work, as men’s clubs, gymuasiums, etc., and appeals to meu iu every walk of life.”
