WILFORD’S WIRELESS.

THE PROMPTINGS OF "PROVERBS.”

Tne following clever "skit” by " Ariel” in “ On the Watch Tower” appears in the Dunedin Star:—

I had to get into wireless connection with a number of persons about that message to Mr Wilford, 500 miles beyond Fiji. "What did he do,” I asked, "when you handed him that cryptic message, Prov. 1., 15?” "Oh, he just took out his pocket Bible and looked up the passage ; then he smiled sweetly, and, looking up, said : ‘Truly, the scriptures are profitable xor instruction ; moreover, by them is thy servant warned.’ ” I then cast out into the universal ether the following inquiry; "Was reference in Wilford’s message, Prov. i., 15. correct ? —Ariel.” in the course of a lew hours the tape recorded the following replies : "Must have meant Prov. ii., 15, ‘Their ways are crooked and they arc froward in their paths.'— Massey.” "Evidently meant Prov. v., 15 : ‘Drink water from their own cistern and running water from their own well.’ —ISicholls.” "Think it was a mistake for Prov. viil., 15: ‘‘By me kings reign and princes are established.’ —Ward Bart.”

"Should say it meant Prov. ix., 15 : ‘To call to passengers who go on their way. Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither.’—-Millar.” "Ignorantly misread. It was Shakespeare, not Solomon. Per. 1,1,5: ‘Think death no hazard in this enterprise.’—Findlay.” "Evidently complete bungle for Prov. xxix., 2 ; ‘When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice. ’ —Laurensou. ’ ’

It should be stated that Proverbs 1,, 15, reads: "My sou, walk not m the way with them ; refrain thy toot from their patn.”
