THE WAIHI STRIKE.
The Federation of Labour, which is bolstering up the Waihi strike, has appealed lor funds from labour organisations in Auckland under its banner, but the response is not very hearty. On the other hand, the total sum promised and collected iu Auckland to date for members of the Engine-drivers’ Union at Waihi, whose formation of a separate organisation led to the present trouble, amounts to The promoters of the fund are daily iu receipt of offers ot lurther assistance should it be requited. It is certain that the sum now available can be substantially increased directly the occasion arises.
The Timaru waterside workers deny that their union authorised anyone to send a telegram to Mr Semple at Waihi promising financial support to Waihi strikers. One member said they had no sympathy with the strikers. The strike still drags on at Waihi, aud sympathy with the instigators is daily waning throughout the Dominion.
