BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS. At a special meeting of the Borough Council held last night, there were present ; His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles Esq.), and Crs Grcig, Gibbs, Richmond and Stewart. The recommendations of the Public Works Committee as tollows, were adopted : —Main Street, to be metalled from Awahou dram to south end ; Johnston Street, cuttings to be lasciued, planted with ice plant and cleaned out in the bottom ; Purcell Street, to be metalled in horse track in centre of road ; Union Street, holes to be filled; Putter Street, approaches on Union Street and Cook Street to be metalled ; Coley Street, east end to be roughly levelled on present line, additional 20 feet of pipes put in and holes filled ; Baker Street, road to be relormed with grader, 2 feet pipes irom Norbiton Road to take place of box culvert, and trees on west side, Avenue to ilovvan Street, to be topped down 12 feet from ground ; Ho wan Streel, gorse, briar and lupin to be grubbed out by owners and road trimmed up with grader and rails fixed to bridge; Robinson Street, to lie formed up with grader ; Ladies Mile, all necessary work to be done ; and ali roads in the Borough to have the road grader over them where necessary. It was decided to order 300 yards of Terrace End metal from the Railway Department.
