CATHOLIC SOCIAL.
Another of the series of socials,
under the auspices of St. Mary’s Church, was held in the Coronation Hall last night. The arrangements in connection with the function wer& well carried out, and the secretary, Mr P. Hennessy, left no stone unturned to ensure a successml gathering. The. attendance was the largest that has ever been known in tbe history of these social, there being about 100 couples ‘‘tripping the light lantastic.” A feature of the evening was the large number of Territorials present, aud when dancing was commenced the uniforms of the men and the gay attire ot the ladies presented a very picturesque appearance. The music was supplied by Mi F. C. Berthold assistep byCoulau’s Baud, from Himataugi. Messrs S. Dudson and M. Perreau capably carried out the duties of M.’sC. The supper, which was supplied by the lady members of the church, was very tasty and was done full justice to. During the evening songs were contributed by Mr Prosser aud SergeantMajor Speckle, the latter receiving an encore. Dancing was kept going till about 2 o’clock, when everybody lett for home well satisfied with the evening’s amusement aud expressed ihe opinion that il was oue of the most enjoyable functions of this kind that has yet been held. The next social will take place in about four weeks’ time.
