SKATING
There was again a very lair attendance at the Municipal Skating Rink last evening, when an enjoyable time was spent. This amusement having won such popularity with patrons is going the right way to take the place of dancing here this season, as it is looked upon as a much more inating pastime than “tripping the light fantastic.” It has been suggested that the manager be asked' to put on a special session which would take the form of “competition night,” when races for ladies and gentlemen skaters, competitions for graceful couples and best lady and gentleman skaters could be held. If this was done it would be a good “speck” lor the Borough Council, because it would create lively enthusiasm among the skaters and for the small sum of sixpence nonskaters could have a cheap evening’s amusement. Judging by the appearance ol skaters it would be a difficult problem for the judges to award the honours, as the rink possesses some very excellent skaters, which would do credit to the rink aud compare favourably with others of a similar size. The rink will be opened on Monday aud Thursday evenings.
