CHARGE AGAINST SADLER.

Christchurch, May 14,

The trial of Walter Richard Sadler, charged with unlawfully using an instrument with intent to procure miscarriage, was commenced to-day in the Supreme Court. The Crown evidence was similar to that given in the lower Court.

The defence was that the Act was one of indecency only. No instrument was used, and there was no intention to commit the crime with which accused is charged. After a retirement of neaily three hours, the jury returned a verdict oi guilty. Sentence was deferred.
