BOROUGH ESTIMATES.

At last night’s Council meeting the Tovyi Clerk submitted the following estimate of the receipts and expenditure lor the current year:— RISCKH’TS. General rate of 3d in the £, ,£1,150; Government subsidy, £,'150 ; hotel licenses, ,£l6B ; miscellaneous licenses, £3O ; rents, £IOO ; building fees, £lO ; pound fees, £l2 ; dog tax, £35 ; miscellaneous, £2l 6s id ; total, £1,676 6s id. iiXi J KN JJiT U K i'i. It was decided to give notice ot the intention to strike and levy a general rale of threepence in the a library rale ol r-Bth of a penny in the £, and a sanitation charge ol 17s per pan, for the current year.

The Mayor said he had hoped that they would be able to make a reduction in the general rale this year, but as there was a good deal oi metalling to be none and timber extensions to be made to the gas mains, he did not now think it advisable to make any reduction this year. Next year, however, there would no doubt be a substantial reduction.
