CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor)

' Sjk,—The Foxton Borough I Council appear to be acquiring a ; somewhat unsavory reoutation as j regards the letting of its Hall for political meetings, and with a I view to possibly securing a satisfactory reply to a couple ot questions, I shall be glad if j r oU will give publicity to the following : On Monday last we applied for the use ot the Coronation Hall for Vlr Robertson’s meeting on the following Thursday. We were informed that the hall could not be obtained as it was advertised for skating on that evening. In the report of Council proceedings whereat the question of skating was dealt with, there appeared a statement to the effect that should the hall be required for other purposes the skating would have to give precedence to them. The first question that arises, then, is as to whether there is any record upon tue Council’s minute book making it necessary to give any special notice previous to the hall being required It there is, it appears curious that it was not mentioned in any ot the full reports of Council meetings which appeared in the Herald. If there is not, then it would be interesting to learn the name of the person who arrogates to himself the power to say whether there shall or shall not be any meeting held in the Coronation Hall, In other words, does the dog wag the tail or the tail wag the dog ? It seems high lime that this last question was answered definitely, especially in view of the fact that I am informed the Council are keeping very quiet upon the subject of a re-interment at the public cemetery, for which the ratepayers have to pay the piper ! This payment would appear to be made necessary through the culpable inefficiency of the Council or their sexton —or both. It would certainly seem high time for the workers in Foxton to take a hand in organising politically for municipal as well as parliamentary elections.—l am, etc., Percy T. Robinson.
