MOUTOA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.)
It is reported that a large and modern flaxmill is to be erected on Mr Akers’ properly, in the neighbourhood of the Maitai mill, and that a traffic bridge will be built across the Manawatu river at Walden’s corner. A general store is being run in connection with the post office at Moutoa, and that particular spot is becoming quite an attractive corner. The settlers, and those employed at Whitaunui, find the store very convenient. The attachment of a postal note issue will be asked for, as the district demands such a department. Mr G. Walton, who recently returned from the Palmerston District hospital, where he successfully underwent a serious operation, speaks in high praise of the skill and ability of the medical staff. The scientific operation of making ensilage on Mr A. Saunders’ farm, at the bridge, is being watched with considerable interest b} the farmers in the district. Several members of the public hall committee have been selected to canvass the district for funds. The list is now in the hands of
Mrs K. Hall. It is hoped by | everyone in the locality that the hall will be an established fact before the coming winter is over. The tender of Mr A. E. Smith has been accepted for the erection of a picket fence in front of the Moutoa School. When the fence is Completed the place will look quite attractive what with the new addition to the school, the new coat of paint and the nicely kept gardens.
