Auckland, April 9

On the voyage of the steamer Surrey Irom Liverpool to Auckland, a seaman fell overboard vvhen the vessel was half-way between Capetown aud Australia. A saloon steward named C. Lean De Lance immediately dived overboard to his companion’s rescue. He was unsuccessful in his search lor the missing man, whose name was A. Porter, when suddenly he was viciously attacked by an albatross, aud had great difficulty in beating it off. De Lance was rescued with difficulty, but no trace of Porter was found.
