FOXTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

CATLING A MINISTER,

THE REV. J. M. THOMPSON, M.A., SELECTEE.

A meeting of the district selection committees of the Fuxton charge of the Presbyterian Cnurch was held in the local church on Tuesday evening, prior to the congregational meeting. The Rev. A. Doull, M.A., interim moderator, presided, and there were present; —'Messrs Matheson and McCully (Tiakitahuna), J. Costall (Glen Oroua), Tennant and Wilton (Kaugiotu), A. Speirs. Hornblow, Claris, Parkes, and J. Ross (Foxton). The representatives were unanimous in recommending the Rev J. M. Thompson, m.a,, to the congregation as a suitable pastor to till the vacancy. The congregational meeting was held subsequently, and despite the inclement weather, was representative of the whole district, the northern end being exceptionally so. The meeting opened with praise and prayer, after which the moderator explained the procedure trom the book of order. The con- [ gregatiou having decided upon the salary to be paid, the moderator then informed the congregation of i the selection committee’s recommendation, and called lor a resolution re same. Mr McCully proposed, and Mr Hornblow seconded, that the name of James Alillar Thompson, m.a., be inscribed in the call. Both gentlemen dealt at length with the fitness and qualifications of the minister. The resolution, on being put, was carried unanimously. The moderator, in congratulating the congregation upon its choice, spoke eulogisticaily of Mr Thompson as a scholar and theologian. He could saiely say that the Presbytery would sustain the call, aud he hoped that Mr Thompson would be inducted into the charge towards the cud ot April. The call was then signed by loose pieaeut, aud separate copies handed to Messrs Hornblow (Fox- . 0:; , Wilton fßaugiotu), Costall Allen Groua;, and McCully 1 Ihaiaiahana), in order to give members aud adherents in the va:ious districts an opportunity of signing same. The calls will be presented to a meeting of the Wanganui Presbytery to be held at Marion on Thursday next.
