CRICKET.
On the Training Farm grounds yesterday a match was played between elevens representing Horowhenuaand Mauawatu. Although the home team was not represented by the original team selected they proved altogether too strong for their opponents, and came out victorious by the large margin of an innings and 32 runs. The Horowhenua team was “skippered” by Redgrave. Manawatu batted first and scored 101. Horowhenua replied with 192, of which Naughton scored 87. He gave a really fine exhibition of batting, scoiing all round the wicket, Manawatu in their second essay were disposed oi lor the small total of 59, thus leaving Horowhenua victorious by the above mentioned margin. The teams were most. hospitably entertained at dinner and tea at the Training Farm, and altogether a most enjoyable time was spent. The players speak very highly of the excellent treatment accorded them by Major Burlinsou, who is in charge of the Training Farm, and also occupies the position of President of the Horowhenua Cricket Association. On Saturday last Levin defeated Tainui by five runs on the first innings, after a very exciting game. Levin scored 68, of which Field cont/United 18 and Young 15. Taiuui just failed to reach their opponents’ total, the last wicket falling with the score at 63. King 16, Wiuterburn 14, and Salisbury 11, were the chief scorers.

On Saturday next Foxtou is drawn to meet the Training Farm eleven on the latter’s ground. Should Foxtou be successful in winning the match they will win the Hall Shield. Under these circumstances it is hoped all the selected players will make a _ point of turning up. The is the team : Redgrave, Cook, Cleland, Bowe, Wickham, Whibley, Kuewstub, Rore, Gascoigne, Howe and Young. Mr F. Martin will accompany the team as umpire. The team will travel by motor cars which will leave the Mauawatu Hotel punctually at 1 o’clock.
