FOXTON v. OTAKI

It was expected that the Shield match, Foxton v. Otaki, played on the Park pitch on Saturday alternoon would have been a very close game, as the Otaki eleven had the reputation of being a fairly strong team. It turned out however, a very easy win for the local team, thanks to the batting of Redgrave, and Bovve’s bowling. The visitors were particularly weak in bowling.

Otaki went to the wicket first and were all disposed of for the small total of 50, the only double figure scorer being Griffiths 12. Bowe was in good form with the ball, securing five wickets at a cost of only 12 runs. Foxton opened badly Cook being bowled first hall. The following batsmen however, put a different complexion on things and Otaki’s score was passed with only three wickets down. When the score was 159 for nine wickets the ball gave out and it was then decided to draw stumps. Redgrave, who scored 85 uot out, gave a particularly fine exhibition of batting. His score included nine fourers. The visitors were entertained by the local eleven at afternoon tea on the ground and tea prior to their departure for Otaki. The tollowing are the scores : Otaki.
