MR. PAYNE, M.P., FACES THE MUSIC.

AND GETS A WARM RECEPTION.

Mr Payne, M.P. for Grey Lynn, addressed about 700 ol his constituents last night, and had a very hostile reception. His references to Mr Massey and the Tory Parly created an uproar. The meeting lasted about four hours. Mr F. Briusden, a member of the Grey Lynn Borough Council, offered to contribute £so towards his expenses if Mr Payne would resign and contest the seat again. “If 99 per cent, of the people of Grey Lynn signed a petition asking me to resign,” was Mr Payne’s reply, “I should demand that I should be allowed to stay in Parliament three years to prove that 1 am right.”
