PICTURE SHOW

CLIOS AND PHYLETES

To-night, taking this story which for centuries enthralled readers of the classics, the producers of “ Clios and Phyletes ” have succeeded in placing before the public a film that for all round excellence deserves the highest possible praise. A theme full of humanity, it takes us back to the time when men were indeed men and women women, and when women held their honour dearly. The opening scene is majestic in the extreme, Clios is discovered seated, anon comes Phyletes, and with much grace declares his passion. Her father, King Diomedes, seeing their earnest love for each other consents. Next, the arrival of King Hexar, who falls in love with Clios, and ou being rejected threatens vengeance. King Hexar brings a great army and overpowers King Diomedes, and the beautiful Clios falls into the hands of King Hexar. Phyletes through great difficulty reaches her just as a tearful struggle is taking place between the defenceless woman and the barbarian king. Once more united they watch the burning city from the shepherd’s hut in which Clios has found her father. The acting and staging of the scenes throughout the play are truly splendid, almost past pen description. Length, 1,600 feet.
