MOUTOA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent)
Owing to the inclement weather the public meeting which was to have been held in the Moutoa School last Tuesday evening, for the purpose of discussing what steps should be taken in the direction of erecting a public hall, was postponed until Tuesday, March 19th. Mr S. Wilson, who recently severed his connection as engineer to Whitaunui Ltd., was presented by bis fellow employees with a pair ot military hair brushes prior to his departure. The presentation was made by Mrs K. Hall. We regret to state that Mr G. Walton, of Whitaunui, is at present in the Palmerston Hospital where he is to undergo a very serious operation.
The Green Flaxdressing Company have commenced erecting a modern two-stripper flaxmill on Burr’s property, recently purchased by that company.
It is anticipated that the milk supplied to the Moutoa creamery will be the largest on record this year. Several suppliers deliver about one ton of milk daily and in one instance over tnat quantity is supplied by one dairyman daily. Owing to the continued wet weather flaxmillers iu this district are experiencing some difficulty in tramming flax from the swamps. Only a little of the crops now remain in stook, chiefly barley. It is reported that some very heavy crops of both barley and grass seed will be thrashed this year. The past year has been an exceptionally good one for grass-seeders and I am informed that some very handsome cheques have been made.
A cricket match between the Whitaunuiaud Marinui employees was played last Saturday and resulted in a win for Marinui by one run.
