FOXTON V. LEVIN. The Hall Shield match played on the park pitch on Saturday, resulted in a win ior Foxton by 18 runs on the first innings. The win of the local team was almost entirely due to the good form shown by Redgrave, who contributed 40 runs, and was responsible for the downfall of six of the visiting team’s batsmen at a cost of 23 runs. His generalship also was the means of saving a good few runs. Foxtou won the toss and elected to bat, Redgrave and Cook opening to Retter and Field. With the score at 13, Cook chopped one low into the slips and McKenzie brought off a good catch. Cleland followed and after scoring three singles was bowled by Retter. Two for 25. After four more runs had been added Bowe put one into McKenzie’s hands in the slips. Redgrave was now batting freely, and doing practically all the scoring. With 53 up he was bowled by Rout, the score then being four for 53. The score was the same when Whibley pul a high one into the slips and McKenzie brought off a good one-handed catch. Howe was bowled with the score still at 53, and one run later Retter bowled Young. Seven for 54. Knewstub scored five before he was disposed of, the eighth wicket falling with the score at 60. The two remaining wickets only added four runs, and the innings closed for 64. Retter, who is a fairly fast lett-handed bowler, was very successful, seeming six wickets for 21 runs. Rout, a slow bowler, who gets a good deal of work on, got 4 for 20. The fielding of the visitors was good. When Levin opened their innings scoring was very slow, Redgrave’s first over being a maiden, and seven singles only were scored off the first four overs. With 10 on the board, Redgrave howled Harding, and two balls later Rout was out leg before. Lougbottom followed, and hit the first ball high into the deep field, where he was caught by Howe. Three for 10. Redgrave just missed the hat trick, getting three wickets with four balls. The fourth wicket fell at 13, fifth at 22, sixth and seventh at 29, eighth at 37, ninth at 38, and the tenth at 46. During the day the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the local team.
