MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held List night, Present: Messrs B. G. Gower (chairman), W. S. Carter, F. S. Easton, H. G. Hammond and O. R. Robinson.
The Clerk reported the amount to credit of general account at £l2 ibsqd and nr general account the sum ot 13s qd, rent ot office, has been received and placed to credit. Wages amounting to 15th. It was pointed out that the amount of the original loan, would be barely sufficient to complete the work, and it was decided on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Hammond, that an application be made to the State Guaranteed Advances Department for a further ten per cent, ou the original loan of for completion of drain.
As instructed at the last meeting, the overseer inspected the drains under the control of the Board and repotted as follows: “ I consider the drains that should be attended to first are the new drain, and Karikari and Dr. Wall’s diain. A good deal ol silt has accumulated in the new drain at the junction of Bangley’s and the diagonal for about four chains and for about one chain in the diagonal drain, and from there to the Karikari the drain is full of weeds only. The Karikari, to the junction of Keen’s is also full of weeds on the bottom, and the same thing applies to Dr. Wall’s drain. Keen’s drain is free from weeds in the bottom, and all that is required is the overhanging grass to be cleared and batter trimmed on either side. Cook’s drain to Saunders’ outlet wants attention, also the Mile, Bangley’s and Seifert’s outlet. The new drain, Karikari and Dr. Wall’s are the most important.
It was resolved to invite tenders for the cleaning of drains, 395 chains in all, in four contracts, tenders to be in for a special meeting to be held on the 22nd instant. In connection with the working of the dredge the overseer reported that since last meeting 13 chains of new drain had been completed, leaving about 90 chains yet to be done. The material for the past week has been very good for dredging, the timber being a great deal easier to shift. During the past four weeks, the dredge has worked 23+ days, and during that period 2535 yards of material has been shifted, giving an average of about no yards a day. Everything in connection with the dredge is in first class working order at present.
