PARLIAMENT.
Before the debate on the noconfidence amendment opened last night, Mr Massey unreservedly withdrew all insinuations against Mr Payne, Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Vigor Brown. He added that he did not believe that a bribe had been accepted by any member of the House, or that any member had offered a bribe to any other member, and he was sorry he had read to the House a certain letter in connection with the matter. This frank and manly declaration came as a surprise to both sides of the House, The Opposition and some of the Ministerialists applauded it heartily.
The debate was then continued by the Hon. T. McKenzie, Messrs Laurenson, R. W. Smith and Myers, and the House rose at .30 p.m.
