CRICKET.
HOROWHENUA ASSOCIA TION.
The meeting called for the purpose of resuscitating the Horowheutia Cricket Association was held at Levin on Friday evening.
Major Burlinsou, who convened the meeting, was in the chair, and there were present two delegates from the Training Farm and two from Levin, The delegates from Foxton and Otaki telephoned that they were unable to get over, but would readily fall in with anything done at the meeting. It was proposed by Mr Eggelton, and seconded by Mr Harding, “That the only business of the meeting to-night be to make a draw for the Hugh Hall shield between the clubs competing.”
Mr R. S. Horn was appointed to act as secretary (pro tern). It was resolved to play one round only for the shield ; also that no Wednesday player be allowed to play in any competition matches ; and that each competing club should lorward, at ouce, a list of names of its members. This was done with a view ol stopping importation of players (or say, a visitor who was a crack player being asked to plaj'). The competing clubs are Otaki, Training Farm, Levin and Foxton, with the possibility of Tainui and Mauakau coming in. The draw was as follows : —■ Otaki v. Foxton ; Levin v. Training Farm ; and should Tainui and Manakau come in they would play each other. The Levin and Training Farm shield match took place on Saturday afternoon, and Foxton and Otaki are making arrangements to play on the same ground next Saturday.
The meeting adjourned after a hearty vote ot thanks had been accorded to Major Burlinsou for the great interest he has taken in local cricket.
Thi first match of the competition for the Hall Shield, between Levin and Training Farm, played on Saturday, resulted iu a win for Levin by 102 runs on the first tunings, the scores being Levin 15S, Training Barm 56. A match was played at Shannon on Saturday between teams from the Miranui and Whitaunni mills, and alter a very interesting game Miranui was victorious by the narrow margin of three runs. Mirauuui scores were 11 and 47 and Whitauuui’s 40 and 15.
Arrangements have been made for another match at the Beach tomorrow afternoon between a local eleven and Mr Clelaud’s team. The Foxton players will travel by Mr Dauiell’s motor launch, which will leave the wharf at 1.30 o'clock.
