STATE SCHOOL PICNIC.
TO BE HELD IN ASHHURST DOMAIN.
A special meeting of the local school committee was held last night for the purpose of deciding what steps should be taken in reierence to the annual picnic. There were present; Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Betty, Geo. Coley, T, Henderson, Hussey, Read, Alex. Speirs and the headteacher, Mr Jackson.
Mr Read moved that the annual picnic be held in the Ashhurst Domain, near the Manawatu Gorge, on Monday, 19th inst. The mover said he had been in communication with the railway traffic manager, as instructed by the committee, and the department were prepared to meet the committee m respect to railway tares and to delay the 7 a.m. train on Monday to 7.30 a.m., arriving at Ashhurst at 9.30 a.m., and leaving Ashhurst on the return journey at 4.45 p.m. The return tares would be: Children 15 years of age and under, nd; teachers and senior scholars, is 6d ; adults, 2s. He said the locality was splendidly situated and near the gorge.—The resolution was seconded by Mr Hussey and carried.
It was decided to order 350 children’s tickets, 50 senior pupils, aud 150 adults.
The committee decided to cater lor the children and details were left in the hands of the Chairman and Mr Speirs. Messrs Betty aud Procter were appointed to collect subscriptions tor trophies, etc. The sports programme was leit m the hands of the headteacher and Mr Coley. Milk aud hot water will be supplied to parents tree on the ground. It was decided to meet again next Tuesday to report progress.
