LAND SALE.

The auction sale of Moutoa land held at the Coronation Hall by Messrs Hitchings, Hankins and Co., Ltd., this afternoon was attended by about 20, but there were only two bidders for the properties, Mr Smith and the Green Flaxdressing Company Ltd, After reading over the conditions of sale the auctioneer put up the piece containing 19 acres odd, stating that the buyer could have the option of taking the smaller piece at the same price. It was started at per acre and by bids reached £25, 10s bids brought the price up to ,£3O and then 5s bids were taken- The competition was solely between the two bidders above mentioned and the land was eventually knocked down to the Green Flaxdressing Company at per acre. The uurchaser was not prepared to take the smaller piece at the same price and consequently it was submitted under the hammer. It was started at ,£25 per acre and reached ,£4B before being knocked down to the previous buyer. Through refusing to take 3)4 acres at the price per acre paid for the other property, the purchaser had to pay a little over ,£'3o more for the same land. We understand that the Green Flaxdressing Company purchased the laud as a flaxmill site and will shift their mill, which is at present on the opposite side of the river, on to this property.
