NAPIER-GISBORNE RAILWAY
TURNING THE FIRST SOD

The first sod of the NapierGisborue railway was turned today by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, amidst the enthusiastic cheers of the assembled crowd. In his speech Sir Joseph Ward said that work in the construction of the line would be commenced in real earnest within the next ten days.
