POLICE COURT.
At the local Police Court this morning before Messrs Hennessy and Stiles, J.’s P., George Langley was charged on the information of the police with being the person having charge of a horse did cruelly illtreat same by working it in harness while suffering from sore shoulders.
Defendant pleaded not guilty, stating that a*boy was driving the horse and he was not aware that it was suffering from sore shoulders.
The police stated that they had warned the boy the previous Friday, but on Sunday had again seen him driving the horse and then they took charge of the animal. It was a bad case.
The Justices held that as defendant owned the horse be was responsible and should have seen that it was not worked. A fine of 1 with costs 12s was inflictedTRESPASS. George James was charged with, on January 22nd, at Himatangi, wilfully trespassing in the dwellling of William Renton and refusing to leave when called upon to do so. Accused pleaded not guilty, stating that he went into the house to get out of the heat. It appears that accused went into the house whilst Mrs Renton was temporarily absent and seated himself on a chair. When she returned and saw him she ordered him to leave and he. refused to goThe police were communicated with and the man was arrested.
The Justices convicted and sentenced him to one week’s imprisonment in Palmerston prison.
