LONDON WOOL SALES.
London, January 17
At tiie wool sales bidding was animated. Prices were firm at the opening rates. The Commerce and Tourists Division o£ the Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated January 17th, regarding the opening of the first series of the colonial wool sales: “ The wool sales have commenced, and there is great competition. The Americans are buying medium crossbreds. Prospects are favourable. The market for merino is firm but not advanced; for crossbreds the market is higher all round by a halt penny per lb than last sale; 45,900 bales of New Zealand wools are available.”
