PETITION AGAINST A POLL.

Of the four Maori districts on the East Coast—Takitlmu, Horoutu, and Arawa—only one carried prohibition as the result of the poll taken on December 19 last. According to the Gazette, published on Friday, the figures for these districts were :

A petition is to be lodged against the validity of the Horoutu poll (the district where prohibition was carried) on the ground that the poll was not taken in accordance with the law.
