Dr Borchard, the French Resident at Wallis Island, reiterates his accusations respecting the allegedly over-ruling powers of the Marist priests on the island, iu replying to the statement made by Father Chevrevil, procurator of the Marist Mission iu the South Seas, iu defence of the priests at Wallis Island, who, Father Chevrevil, asserts, have been “ libelled by the Resident.”

The Resident also declares that he is returning to Wallis Island to take . certain action which is supported by the French Government to end the present state of affairs. He denies the mission paper’s report that he held the hand of the King and compelled him to sign a decree for the expulsion of Father Bazin from the island.
