THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
NO CHANGE,
Christchurch, January 4
The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) arrived in town to-day from Wellington, and spent the morning at Warner’s Hotel discussing the political situation with local members of Parliament belonging to his party. Those who had an audience with S|f Joseph were Sir Arthur Messrs E. M. Isitt, G. W. Russell, T. H. Davey, H. G. Ell, and Geo. Witty. The members left the hotel about 12.30 p.m., and Sir Joseph followed shortly afterwards.
“ I’ve got nothing to say,” he exclaimed directly he caught sight of a reporter.
“ Will the conference be continued this afternoon,” he was asked. 11 There was no conference,” he replied, and “ I can’t say what I will be doing this afternoon.” “ Remember,” he added, as he rushed away, “there was no conference.”
Sir Joseph Ward was seen later ou iu the day, but he repeated his assurauce that he had uothing whatever to communicate.
