BOWLING CLUB.
OPENING OF THE PAVILION.
Despite the inclement weather, the Foxtou Bowling Club opened their pavilion on Wednesday last about thirty people being present. Play was out of the question, but full justice was done to alteruoon tea provided by the ladies. The occasion was also made the opportunity of receiving gills for the coming carnival. Mr Plenuessy (President), in declaring the pavilion open, regretted that a little more sunshine had not graced the occasion, but the smiles of those present made up for any deficiency. He thanked the donors for the gifts received, and said he understood there were several more promised. A hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for afternoon lea marked another step in the advance ol the bowling club. The gilts were then displayed, one which caused no end ol curiosity was enveloped in boxes and wrappers numbering twenty-three, and ultimately revealed itself in a gold coin. The pavilion, which was erected by Mr Alex. Spelrs, came in for most favourable comment. In addition to the accommodation for afternoon tea, with gas, water and cupboards there are two rooms, one for the ladies, the other for the gentlemen. A peep into the former disclosed those necessary requisites for the fair sex, brush, comb and hairpins, and last but not least pins and a mirror. The vanity of the sterner sex has yet to be catered lor.
