SCHOOL GARDENS COMPETITION.
On Tuesday afternoon the local school gardens were judged by Mr Gray iu the school garden competition arranged by the local Horticultural Society. Mr Gray, iu a few well chosen remarks, congratulated the children on the excellence ot the gardens, which he considered very well cultivated. He invited the elder pupils to pay a visit to his garden, when he would be pleased to give them a lesson ou tomato culture and the care of the grape vine. The head teacher thauked Mr Gray for his kiud offer, assuring him that the visit would be made if time allowed.
The prizes were awarded as follows :
Vegetable plots,—Alex Gray 1, Gordon Peek 2, Ernest Seeker 3, Arthur Brewer h.c. Special prizes, kindly donated by Mr Gray, were awarded to Walter Seeker (tor best cauliflowers), aud to Arthur Bullard (for best grown vegetables). Flower Plots.—lda Withers x, Florence Edliu 2, Maud Andrew 3, Nellie Robinson aud Maggie Satherly very highly commended, Irene Easton, Hope Mackie,Violet McSaveny and Irene Crowe h.c. Best show of blooms. —F’rida de Ridder.
