GENERAL ELECTION.

It is claimed that the general election on Thursday, created more interest throughout the Dominion than has ever been the case before. In any case as far as this electorate is concerned excitement has never previously run so high. No one appeared to be able to foretell the result, and the opinion of the majority appeared to be that every candidate was in the running, and it would not be matter of any great surprise whichever way the poll resulted. Locally vehicles were running all day conveying the voters to the poll. About S2O votes were recorded in Foxton on Thursday, as against 761 three years ago. After the close of the poll a very large crowd assembled in front of the Hkkald Office to await the results, which were posted up as soon as received. Before eight o’clock from the returns received it was apparent that the contest at the s. ciunl ballot would be between lae Liberal candidate, Mr W. li. Field aud Mr J. Robertson, the Labour representative. The final figures were: F'ield 1721, Robertson 1269, Moucktou 1145,

Messrs Moucktou and Brown polled 2157, aud if the same number of votes are recorded in the second ballot as was the case on Thursday, it will mean that Mr Robertson, in order to win, have to add a further 1300 odd,_ y votes to his score of 1269. It is understood that both candidates intend to pursue a strenuous platform campaign right up to next Thursday. The following are the details of the voting at the various booths.
