The Tougariro arrived at Wellington from Loudon at 0.30 this morning.
Mr Robertson, Labour candidate, will deliver an open air address at the Triangle this evening at 7.15 o’clock.* The services in 3t. Mary’s Church to-morrow will be conducted at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., by the Rev. Father Kelly. The services in All Saints’ Church to-morrow will be 8 a.m. Holy Communion, 11 a.m. matins and sermon, 7 p.m. evensong and sermon. The services at the local Methodist Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev. S. B. Maiden of Shannon. At the Presbyterian Church tomorrow night, the Rev H. J. Lewis will preach a special service on “ Bathers and Children, or the Old Generation and the New.” All invited. Mr Lewis will also conduct the morning service. The Inspector-General of Police, New South Wales, has issued strict instructions that boxing contests must not be allowed to develop into prize-fights or exhibitions of brutality. Under no circumstances will infringing of this be allowed. The clean break is insisted upon. Contestants must be medically examined and certified fit before they enter the ring.
The following pupils of the local State School sat for the Proficiency examination yesterday:— Stanley Austin, Stanley Barber, Henry Berthold, Roy Coley, Virgil Edwards, Gordon Peek, Alex. Gray, Edgar McEwau, Herston Robinson, Ernest Seeker, Agatha Boden, Mary Collins, Florence Edlin, Grace Lett, Ellen Robinson, Kathleen Seeker. Sixteen pupils are presented this year. The Huddersfield Bellringers played to a good house in the Coronation Hall on Thursday night and the audience was de- ~ lighted with the entertainment., " At the Auckland Supreme Court ou Friday, beiore Mr Justice Chapman, Jas, Whiting was found guilty of attempting to carnally know and criminal assault. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. The Auckland Tramways Union yesterday served ou the Auckland Flectric Tramways Company the following notice, signed by some 49S men : —” We, the undersigned employees of the Auckland Electric Tramways Company, Ltd., hereby give the requisite 14 days’ notice under the Act that, unless a satisfactory settlement of the present dispute is effected by the end of the said 14 days from service hereof, we intend to ceasev work.” 1
As the result of a political argument between two of the crew of the steamer Remuera, Jack Everett was yesterday arrested at Auckland on a charge of stabbing Ben Barker, who has been removed to the hospital with a wound in the chest and both bauds badly cut. He had attempted to get the knife from his antagonist. Barker’s injuries are not likely to prove latal.
