MOUTOA NOTES.

Mr Byron Brown in his speech at h'oxtoa on Tuesdav night, when referring to the need for closer settlement in this district, surprised a lew Montoaites who were present by his inaccurate statement that there was only one solitary person employed on Dr. Wall’s farm, which he singled out as a shocking example ot the evils of laud aggrealiou. Now, as a matter of fact, there are three families resident on the farm, who total between them 25 persons, besides several casual hands are employed al different periods of the year. Two of the families are engaged in the dairying industry and are milking over a hundred cows between them.

There is every probability of a school being opened at Upper Mouloa, as Mr Doyle, who is interesting himseii in the matter, has received word that providing a suitable building could be found, the Board would be willing start a side school. On Wednesday evening a very j leasant dance was given by the ladies of Moutoa in Dr Wall’s Hall. Although the weather was anything but bright, a large number were present. About thirty couples occupied the floor. ;ilent music, was supplied by .\les-ns Norton and Walden. The interior of the hall was tastefully decorated. Supper was served in Mrs S. Doyle’s spacious dining room, the cateiing being in the capable hands of the ladies’ committee. The table was artistically decorated. The duties of M’s.C. were carried out by Mrs Mohekey and Miss Faire. Mesdames Doyle and Mohekey left no stone unturned in their endeavours to make me evening a success, and the bachelors may congratulate the ladi-s on the completeness of the arrangements and the success of the dance.
